09/08/2016: Top geneticist joins Benchmark’s growing breeding and genetics business

Benchmark today announced industry expert, Dr Alan Tinch has joined the Group’s breeding and genetics business as Technical Services Director.

Based out of Edinburgh, Alan will be responsible for developing our technical support platform across a portfolio of aquaculture species. The newly created role will accelerate Benchmark’s breeding and genetics offering by providing proactive, evidence-based support to help producers optimise results. 

Alan Tinch who studied Genetics at University of Edinburgh and the Roslin Institute brings over 28 years’ experience in commercial breeding programmes and technical support across a number of species including salmonids, pigs and broiler chickens. He joins the team from Hendrix Genetics, having previously worked at JSR Genetics and Aviagen. 

Commenting on joining Benchmark Breeding and Genetics, Alan Tinch said: “Benchmark has developed a unique strategy to improve health, welfare and performance of the animals produced out of its breeding programmes. Breeding programmes continue to deliver breeds with greater potential performance and customers require more information to optimise health, welfare and value. I am excited to be joining the Benchmark team to help producers achieve the best performance from their stock.”
