19/11/2015: Smart shrimp aquaculture workshop for the Asia Pacific region.

A smart shrimp aquaculture workshop with the theme 'Living with EMS and EHP, challenging the disease through smart shrimp farming' will take place in Thailand at AIT Bangkok campus on January 20-22, 2016.

The workshop will bring together world-class experts who will present many proven solutions to stem the EMS tide and set the goal for more prosperous shrimp farming using the latest technological advancements on the topic. It is hoped that the event will be greatly beneficial for participants to generate a wealth of information and apply these techniques to improve shrimp production in their aquaculture enterprises.

Who should attend?
The workshop is intended for practicing shrimp farmers, farm technicians, progressive entrepreneurs, students, researchers in R & D institutions, officers of the Department of Fisheries, and enterprising aquaculture students from Thailand and overseas.

The shrimp farming industry is currently passing through a challenging phase, mostly because of diseases like Acute Hepatopancreatic Necrosis Disease (AHPND), still known worldwide as EMS - Early Mortality Syndrome, caused by the microsporidian parasite Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP).
Such diseases are widespread in Thailand and it is feared they will take new forms across diverse farming situations. Many shrimp farmers have no clue as to how this critical situation might be addressed. To manage these and other emerging challenges, farmers at the regional level need to be updated with the latest research, and also acquire adequate expertise and practical skills to efficiently organise their resources to achieve improved production levels.

This workshop on Smart shrimp farming is organised jointly by the Asian Pacific Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society; the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand; Blue Aqua International Ltd, Bangkok, Thailand and INVE Aquaculture(Thailand) Ltd.
