02/08/12: BBC mangroves; Bangladesh and sustainable aquaculture; EU-funding for Nevis; Canadian salmon virus

  • Mangroves conservation to lock carbon away in trees may be an economic way to curb climate change, according to a story on the BBC website.  Research presented in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), suggests that carbon credit schemes similar to those for rainforests could be applied to mangroves.   Read the report here.
  • The WorldFish Center and Bangladesh Shrimp and Fish Foundation (BSFF) have signed a memorandum of understanding for joint activities for the growth of sustainable aquaculture.  Cooperative activities will include conferences, research, and advocacy initiatives, would be made to develop natural fishes and shrimp seed conservation in Bangladesh.
